The media affects everyone...

As consumers, we are exposed to over 10.4 hours of media a day. Whether we realize it or not, media such as TV ads, social media posts, and magazine covers are being stored in our subconscious, leaving us with the lasting impression that we're not "enough." The beauty industry has used this to their advantage in order to cultivate beauty ideals that stress the importance of appearance above all else. As a result, our health and self-image can suffer dramatically. 

 Katie H. Willcox provides an engaging one-hour multimedia presentation that covers a brief history of media advertising, the distortion of health and the “beauty ideal” in the media, and how the beauty industry exploits our insecurities to sell products.
